I have seen the future – in Cambodia
I was looking into the details of getting a visa to visit Cambodia. I did a web search and found the official government site. It was a pretty good looking site. I started to read around the page and I saw a link called “eVisa.” Interesting! I clicked it. It turns out you can apply for a Cambodian visa online. Pretty cool!
I filled out a short web form and submitted my credit card number for the processing fee. It said it would take 1 day to process the payment and 2 days to issue the visa, which would be emailed to me. I would never need to send my passport to an embassy or consulate. I thought that was most cool. What happened next was even more cool. Here is a timeline of events:
~3:30 PM: Begin filling out form. Have my admin take a digital photo of me and I crop it down to passport photo size. They ask for very basic info. Name, address, date of birth, passport number, citizenship, country of birth, passport expiration, etc, and have me upload a jpg of my photo.
3:45 PM: Click submit. Within 30 seconds receive an email saying I will get another email within 1 day indicating my payment was processed and to email if that didn’t happen. At this point I assumed that the web was simply a front-end form that sent an email off for manual processing since they did not immediately authorize my credit card.
3:47 PM: I receive another email indicating my payment had been processed and that it would be two days before I get my visa. It will be emailed to me and I need to print it out and bring it with me to present to the immigration officials.
3:58 PM: I receive another email indicating my visa has been approved. It is in HTML format and includes a visa to print out.
Absolutely amazing! 13 minutes from the time I applied until the time my visa arrived. Other times I have needed to obtain visas it took days or weeks and involved lots of paperwork and mailing of passports and documentsww.we
This is one of the best and easiest ways to get a Visa. I like to thank the Cambodian Consulat for the E- Visa Blog possibility. More Countries should use this system.
