The diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Cambodia were established since 1963. In June 2002, Minister of Foreign Affairs signed agreement with Switzerland Ambassador. At the invitation of His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath NORODOM SIHAMONI, King of Cambodia, Her Excellency Madame Micheline Anne-Marie CALMY-REY, President and Head of the Federal Department for Foreign Affairs of the Confederation of Switzerland, paid a State Visit to the Kingdom of Cambodia from 6 to 7 February 2007. Such visits deepen and strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.

For the past 30 year, Cambodia was suffering from the continuing legacy of civil war. Switzerland supports efforts by the international community to establish a UN tribunal to investigate the crimes of the Khmer Rouge, and call to account those perpetrators who are still alive.

Switzerland helps the Cambodian private sector by promoting exports, ensuring that production is as environmentally friendly as possible, and arranging credits. At the Angkor Wat temple complex a Swiss team cooperated with local people to restore the temple of Banteay Srei, which is over 1,000 years old. Swiss national Beat Richner conducts hospital projects with a certain proportion of public funding.
